Just a really quick post -
My TV is now back so I can now begin to look at the PS3’s security once again.
TV is now back
Firmware 2.00 is supposed to stop me lol
Well I’m gald in a way.
Sony has finally taken the users network security seriously and done a deal with Trend Micro to try and secure the PS3.
Yahoo News or you can look at all the other links reporting the Trend Micro linkup
Google Link
So whats that go to do with Firmware 2.0
Have a look here
So it would appear that Sony way paying attention. Well all I can say it Nice one, Its nice to know that its being taken seriously and looked at.
But of course I now have to try and bypass it. once enabled. lol
But so far Sony has gone up in my thoughts - +1 to the bug guys.
Early Warwark Beta?.

Well some of you may know that Imsomniac messed up and put the early beta files up if you had a certain disc ID.
They have now amended the update file checks so its no longer available.
or is it????
V1 = Link
V2 = Link
V3 = Link (looks same as V2 except the file check is different)
What happens is that during the game start up process Warhawk will look for updated files if it finds then then it will promt to down load. All users are currently on V1.00 but you can see that there is V1.01 so if you use a DSN hack or a proxy then you can subvert the location. To know your location you may have to sniff you network traffic which is what I did a while back when my TV was working.
Once you know your disc ID (e.g. NPEA00017 or PS3RIPS0019) then just make it go to the other file.
PS you may also have to set up a link for the actual disc ID cfg file and not just the manifest as I have shown here.
This is an example (again from the warhawk site)
you can do this kind of thing to many games, but I hope you get the idea.
I’ve not been able to do a full test as I mentioned my TV busted about a week ago (should be fixed by wednesday) but the aboe should work.
I’m going to give a shout out on this to Placca/Waisted even though I didn’t consult with him on it and I sniffed all info mentioned above from my own network and its my own research, it could be argued that it uses a similar method to one he found where you could swap over certain parts of the PS3 files if you knew their locations. In fact to get the update to download you would most likely have to do virtually the same thing that he mentioned in his hack.
TV Busted

Well I have a nice new TV which is busted. lol
Its a Sharp Lc 42 xd1e FULL HD and maxed out on spec’s but I’ve only had it for a few months and it bust.
and the weird thing is that its my PS3 that broke it. (its a long story but it comes down to the Ps3 not sending a signal when switvching between the main GameOS and the emulated PS2 Os.
On most new TV’s if they have a strong signal (PS3 GaneOS) and the the TV detects that signal is lost (the moment the PS3 switches to Ps2 GameOS) the TV will attempt to rescan for that lost signal.
The issue is caused by the PS3 only losing the signal for about a half of a second. This can be seen by if you have a USB drive with a light on it. It will switch off, the same happens to the controller and also if you have a LCD screen it will switch from black with backlighting (its as black as an LCD can go) to pure black (no back lighting meaning no signal) and then back to having a signal again.
So anyway its bust and will be fixed soon.
But until then don’t expect too much form me.

PS3 Play TV Coming Soon
Quote From Sony SCEE Media Centre
PLAYTV UNLOCKS FREE DIGITAL TV ON PLAYSTATION 3
Watch, record and replay TV shows on demand Turn PS3 into a digital personal video recorder and record programmes to watch anytime, anywhere
Leipzig, 22 August 2007. At Games Convention today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced the introduction of PlayTV, a combined TV tuner and Personal Video Recorder (PVR) for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™). PlayTV will be available in UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain early in 2008, with other PAL territories to follow in due course.
Designed to reinforce PS3’s rightful place in the Living Room at the heart of the home entertainment needs, the twin channel TV tuner peripheral and PVR software turns PS3 into a state of the art TV recorder, allowing users to watch, pause and record live TV. PlayTV will also record individual programmes or whole series1 to the PS3 hard drive for viewing later on the family TV, or for transferring to the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) for remote viewing outside of the home.
Operating on the widely available Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) format, PlayTV uses an incredibly quick and easy to use 7-day Electronic Programme Guide EPG2. that provides the navigation for programming the PVR features of PlayTV.
In line with PlayStation’s focus on advanced technology made easy, PlayTV provides a host of added value features seldom seen on anything but the highest cost standalone PVRs:
• PlayTV’s two TV tuners are High Definition ready and are able to view, record and play back High Definition signals in full HD1080P to fully complement PS3’s already impressive High Definition credentials.
• Unlike the electronic programme guides found on conventional satellite and cable services, PlayTV’s EPG is lightning fast, and simple to use with either PS3’s SIXAXIS™ wireless controller or the BD remote control to really enhance viewing pleasure.
• Intuitive controls, single button help features, tutorial videos and simple navigation make PlayTV a positive joy to use compared with the complexity of some standalone PVR models
• Seamless connectivity with PSP allows you to set recordings, watch Live TV and recorded TV programmes remotely on PSP via a Wi-Fi connection (using Remote Play feature). Alternatively, quickly transcode recorded TV shows for high quality viewing to PSP by USB cable for remote viewing away from the home.
• Optional on-screen graphical display provides a wealth of information about the status of PlayTV and provides quick access to programme information, stored TV programmes and the controls to pause or record live TV. PlayTV will also set the correct interface for either Standard Definition or High Definition displays, maximising the viewing experience.
• PlayTV will evolve with time, with great added value functionality being updated via PLAYSTATION®Network; a feature that sets it above all other set top boxes. PlayTV will never be out of date.
“The introduction of PlayTV really will extend the already broad entertainment credentials of PS3, and makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition for the whole family,” said David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “PS3 already provides High Definition gaming, Blu-ray Disc movies, music, video, photo album, web browsing and PLAYSTATION Network support. With the introduction of PlayTV’s state of the art TV tuner and PVR functionality, PS3 is now the best choice of home entertainment hub for the whole family.

Now if it can be plugged into my DreamBox then I’ll be interested.
Boot (but not play) Backups on PS3 XMB.
Well we can at last get backups on the XMB (No way to play yet).
See the Video below for the method.
How to bypass PS3 Disc Content Level Security
The Ps3 has a security feature built in which is supposed to stop people playing games that are violent etc. This feature is called content protection.
It will allow someone to set the Ps3 up to only allow games up to a certain content level to be played.
An example would be
Need for Speed Carbon = Content Level 5
Fight Night Round three = Content Level 7
Grand Theft Auto Four = Content Level 9
So if a Ps3 was set up to only allow games with a content level of 5 and below you could not play 2 of the above games.
Well now it seems that we have found a way around the issue.
First we will use a defective tiff file (File created by H3r3tic)
save it in a folder called test on a memory card.
Next we need two game
The one we can play and the one we can’t.
Put the game we can play in the ps3 (turn autoplay discs off in settings for this to work)
Now browse to the memory card and attempt to view the tiff file (you may need to select “view all” to get to the folder)
The folder won’t display the tiff - this is normal but you should see in the top right hand side the “ps3 busy icon”
Now press right on the controller and attempt to play the game (the one you always could play)
It wont start and it will freeze.
Now swap the disc for the one that was content protected
Remove the memory card
and the Content Protected game will start.
Here is a little video to demo the work-around
*****EDIT*****
Otherwise you could just set the Ps3 to its default settings (however this will lose any settings you have changed on the machine.
